Community groups
Informal groups, clubs and local activities with little or no funding can ask us to support the website fully.
Support should be practical
Not every good local idea has a budget.
A community group meeting in a library, a new venture finding its feet and an established business are not in the same position. Discover Shirley does not need to pretend they are.
Our approach
If a local project genuinely cannot contribute, we can contribute more.
For non-profit and community activities with no meaningful funds, we are happy to support both the website design and its ongoing maintenance. For someone starting a small business who cannot manage £10/month yet, talk to us and we can work out a sensible starting point.
No complicated test
We would rather have a conversation than an application form.
Some cases are obvious; others are not. We do not want to build a bureaucracy around a neighbourhood project.

Not sure?
Some groups raise money, sell tickets or have modest funds. That does not automatically make them ineligible. If in doubt, get in touch.
Pay it forward
When things improve, help the next person.
If we support your new venture while money is tight and it later becomes established, we will ask you to start contributing. Not because we are trying to recover an old debt, but because your contribution can help the next local person get the same start.
That is the model we want Discover Shirley to grow around: people supporting a project that, in turn, supports more people.
Cultural and non-profit projects
Our starting assumption is simple: if an activity exists for community or cultural benefit and genuinely has no budget for a website, we are happy to help without charging for the design or maintenance.
If the organisation has meaningful income or operates more like a funded enterprise, we may ask for the same contribution as a small business. We will decide that through a conversation, not a rigid category label.
For established organisations & larger companies
There are other ways to support Shirley.
If you are a larger business, institution or organisation and you like what Discover Shirley is trying to do, we are interested in partnerships rather than squeezing you into an offer designed for small independents.
