This notice reflects the current Discover Shirley website, which does not use analytics or advertising tools. If the services used by the website change, this notice will be updated to reflect them.
1. Who we are
Discover Shirley is a local initiative based in Shirley, Southampton. For personal information handled through this website and our project enquiries, Discover Shirley acts as the data controller. You can contact us at info@discovershirley.co.uk.
2. Information we may receive
We may receive personal information when you contact us, including your name, email address, business or group name, links you choose to share, and the content of your message. If you become part of Discover Shirley, we may also hold the practical contact and administrative information needed to build, maintain and discuss your website.
This website is currently static. The enquiry form on the contact page opens your own email application; it does not submit your form contents to a Discover Shirley database.
Our website hosting provider may also process ordinary technical information such as IP addresses, browser information and server logs for security, availability and troubleshooting.
3. Why we use personal information

4. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Enquiry correspondence that does not progress is kept only for the period needed to deal with the enquiry and reasonable follow-up. Information connected with an ongoing Discover Shirley arrangement may be kept for the duration of that relationship and afterwards where needed for legal, tax, accounting, dispute-resolution or record-keeping purposes.
5. Who receives information
We do not sell personal information. Information may be handled by service providers that support the website, email, domain, hosting or technical administration where this is necessary. Those providers should only receive the information needed for their role. This notice must be updated if Discover Shirley adds material new providers or tracking services.
6. International transfers
Some technology providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will use providers and arrangements that provide the required protection.
7. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal information, correct it, ask for deletion, restrict or object to processing, receive certain information in a portable form, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. These rights are not absolute in every situation.

8. Data-protection complaints
You can raise a data-protection complaint with us at info@discovershirley.co.uk using the subject “Data protection complaint”. We will provide a clear route for complaints, acknowledge a complaint within 30 days, take appropriate steps to investigate it without undue delay, keep you informed as appropriate, and tell you the outcome.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Information about doing so is available on the ICO website.
9. Cookies and browser storage
See our Cookie Policy. In the current build we use browser storage to remember your privacy preference. Optional analytics and marketing tools are not active.

We may update this notice as Discover Shirley develops. The date at the top will show when it was last revised.
